Hello fashionist! Welcome to this ecological fashion blog created by six from the School of Arts and Design in Orihuela. My name is Marta Meca and I am going to write this first post. In it I am going to explain our proyect and the reason why we do it.
This is a proyect proposed by
our teacher of computer science in the school. She proposed us to create an
individual ecodesign blog. We had to post information about this topic and in
the end , each one of us will expose a fashion collection using this
information.
However, six of us decided to
break the rules and create one blog in common. In this Blog We collaborate and give
our ideas to create the best blog!
So we created the design, the
distribution, and the blog logo and now… We have to start with hard work!
We have organised our work in a weekly basis, each one having a topic on to work with every
week: I have to post on Monday, Ángela López on Tuesday, María Sarrias on Wednesday,
María Navarro on Thursday, Aïda Reig on Fridays and Carlota Sánchez on Saturday.
(And We sleep on Sunday)
We have also organized for the weeks that each of us has a different theme (although always
related to eco-fashion ) . This week we are going to talk about the introduction to eco-fashion ,
so the following posts will be directed to enter the world of eco-design : meaning , national and
international designers, sustainable fashion types ...
Are you ready?
Ecological products have been used by many brands
for a long time. In the internacional field, we can find the next business:
- The brand Levi’s, who participates in eco-design with several collections. Two of them are the organic denim jeans line, which has been sold in Europe and United States from 2006, and the Jeans Water Less line, which uses less water in the production of the garments and saves 10 litres of water with every jean.
- The company Adidas, with an ecological line of footwear called Adidas Grün, which uses three kinds of products, all of them are respectful with the environment: biodegradable and recyclable products, and natural fibres.
- The company Nike with its sport line called Nike Considered. This line uses recyclable and 100% biodegradable materials.
- The company Barney’s in the United States has an ecological line called It’s organic.
Some of the designers who are involved in
this kind of fashion are Giorgio Armani, Moschino, Stella McCartney, Yves Saint
Laurent, Calvin Klein, Givenchy, Donna Karan, Ralph Lauren and Versace.
But Spanish fashion does not stay behind. It
stands out for his originality and his innovation, and there are a lot of brands
and designers immersed on this global trend:
- The company Ecoalf, founded in 2009 by Javier Goyeneche. This brand uses elements like fishing nets, plastic bottles or rests of coffe. Those materials look unusable but thanks to technology and the recycled processes development they can be transformed in Ecoalf’s clothes.
- Spanish designer Eduardo Rivera’s brand, whose fashion is affordable and comfortable. Among all his garments, the jackets for men and women and the elegant trousers stand out.
Green fashion arrived to stay here, and it triumphs
in the worldwide. A small step for the humans, a huge step for the fashion.
Techniques based on biology
I hope you like it and good nights lil’ green beings.
Hello fashionist! I´m here today again as every Tuesday.
In the post of today I’m going to talk about the cellulose obtained
(used in clothes production) from natural products like tea or sugar.
Our protagonist of today is Suzanne Lee, a british
designer, responsible for the new
production process of textiles, considered an alternative in areas of medicine
or biology and a new art.
Bio- Couture is the new Lee’s Project, based on the creation of cloth made of cellulose that is obtained
from a fermentation process of organic residues and the grown production
of non pathogenic organism, being its objective the non complet replacement of
conventional materials such as cotton or leather.
That idea was born from a chinese
drink made of tea sugar and the microorganism that ferments and leads to its acid taste.
Process of the biomaterial obtaining:
A great quantity of Green tea with a
lot of sugar is prepared. Then, we
place it inside a bath tub together with
a grown product of yeast, bacteria and microbes. The bathtub has to be covered and left still for two or three weeks in
constant temperature. That, lead to a thick and flexible cap of
cellulose, the material that is going to be used for the production of every
cloth.
The material can be
treated in two way
- If we dry it off, it can be cut and sewen like a conventional material.
- If we place and dampen it inside a Wood mold, we will obtain the whised volum.
The resultant material has a delicate and
fragile aspect (like semitransparent paper) or a material similar to vegetable
leather.
Moreover, one of the advantages of that
material is that needs less colouring
than others fibers and once you don’t want to
use it more, it can be added in the compost and turn into organic manure, as
it’s biodegradable.
Finally, Lee’s clothes only has been displayed in museums because the material is still
in experimentation process, till scientists achieve the cellulose with the
wished properties, because one of the disadvantages is that this material is
not impermeable.
FASHION UP!!
Hello Fashionist! Did you like the
posts from last week? Because over the next few days we are going to talk about
the "types " or "process" of preparing organic clothing! We
have begun researching slightly about this theme and as Carlota has already told in her previous post, there are
many ways to be environmentally kind while we are creating fashion: by more
solidary environmentally elaboration process, We can use different materials
that do not pollute, bringing the garment conservation methods to have a longer
life or just using the Do It yourself ( or DIY ) method.
But keep calm, we will talk about all
of these methods discussed below, let’s go step by step. We started talking about the process of developing
ecological garments and although we will go further in subsequent entries,
today I will give a brief introduction to the topic. The problem of climate
change is very popular nowadays, everyone talks about it and most people of the
planet has already raised awareness.
Many people have begun to mobilize
against harmful traces left by humans on the environment and, of course, the
fashion world is not going to be left behind. Although not all designers
collaborate with this move, many of them have already started to contribute on
it, and, althouhg they are not using all methods of sustainable design at a time, gradually the most
successful brands are seeking to use some of them.
The manufacturing process of the
garment modernizes by leaps and bounds and as the same time its ecological
value ( albeit more slowly ) grows more and more. New technologies makes easier
and faster the completion of the industrial article of clothing, that way the
harmful wastes from the textile mills are gradually reduced.
In addition, worldwide textile and
garment producers watch a lot the use of
harmful products in their process. The environmentalist movement comes to a
point where large numbers of factories replace those harmful products for those
more environmentally friendly. Is not it great? Can you imagine walking through
a city feeling to be going through the countryside or through the mountains?
Who knows if in a few years it may be posible Fashionists?
